The Search 

Renew Consultancy was appointed to identify a CHP Field Service Engineer to carry out a technical and niche role within the growing business.

The client’s challenge was one of success; as a growing business that offers a great work-life balance, they needed to recruit an additional engineer to ensure their team continued to benefit from the flexible company structure. 

They had tried recruiting themselves without success and using another agency, resulting in unsuitable CVs being sent.

Finding an experienced CHP Field Service Engineer within the power generation sector, comfortable traveling long distances to maintain the company assets. 

The incumbent must be conformable in a core-hours business and have the right technical skills and personal attributes to thrive in a small team environment.

Renew Consultancy responded by appointing our expert research team to the market to map and identify CHP Field Service Engineers, Operations Engineers, Gas Engine Maintenance Technicians, and Field Service Technicians across the agreed geographical location, with specific experience in maintaining reciprocating gas engines within the CHP and Power Generation Industry. 

We created a list of target companies and brought together a targeted list of potential candidates for the client.

We worked with the client to present them as an employer of choice in a candidate lead market and enticed the candidates to express their interest in the opportunity.

Identifying the candidate

Renew Consultancy’s rigorous search methodology identified a total of 221 candidates across the Generator industry. Our tried and tested screening process resulted in a shortlist of 5 candidates for our client to interview. 


The successful candidate

Has thorough engine knowledge gained working on diesel and gas reciprocating engines within the Power Generation sector.

They have serviced and maintained Jenbacher and Cummins engines from 330 KW to 3MW. This includes but is not limited to engine rebuilds of piston heads and liners, full overhaul, resolving gas mixture faults, misfires, and tuning issues.

Electrically, they are competent in resolving sensor issues, fault finding on wiring diagrams, and electrical troubleshooting on numerous generator control panels.
